My New Home at The Residences at Rancho La Puerta

I am thrilled to share that I have just purchased a beautiful new casita home at The Residences at Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico. For those who aren’t familiar, The Residences is an exclusive residential community located adjacent to the world-renowned wellness resort and spa, Rancho La Puerta. I have been a long-time guest at The Ranch and absolutely fell in love with the area. I knew I wanted to own a home here one day. Now my dream has come true!
I want to share all the things I already love about my new home and this special community.
A Long History with Rancho La Puerta
I first visited Rancho La Puerta over 15 years ago and was instantly captivated by its beauty and charm. Nestled among the mountains with views of Mount Kuchumaa, Rancho La Puerta exudes tranquility, wellness and a true sense of community. I’ve returned multiple times over the years, always wanting my visits to last longer. There is a feeling of magic when you are there.
My love for The Ranch made the idea of owning a home nearby incredibly enticing. I’d often fantasized about dipping into the Rancho way of life for longer periods of time. When the opportunity came up to purchase at The Residences at Rancho La Puerta, it was meant to be.
An Incredible Array of Amenities
What I appreciate most about The Residences is the amazing constellation of experiences available in this community. From building a state-of-the-art fitness center and spa to tennis courts, swimming pools, and an organic farm, this truly is a paradise for wellness and healthy living. The eco-village design means everything is thoughtfully integrated. Within steps, I can be hiking mountain trails, practicing yoga, getting a massage, or eating farm-to-table cuisine. The amenities promote living in harmony with nature and finding inner balance.
A Beautifully Designed Casita Home
My new casita home is absolutely stunning. Designed in the traditional Mexican-style, it has an open floor plan with gorgeous tiled floors throughout. One of my favorite aspects is the seamless indoor-outdoor living space. Large doors open from the living room out to an expansive covered patio and private garden area. The outdoor spaces offer plenty of room for dining al fresco, reading in comfy lounge chairs, or practicing yoga while gazing at the mountains. I look forward to hosting friends and family here in the years to come.
The interior decor features unique artistic elements like custom wood details, beautiful tile accents, and exquisite furnishings. Each room is infused with warmth, beauty and a bit of Rancho magic. I feel blessed to wake up to these gorgeous surroundings each morning.
Connection with Nature
Being immersed in nature is a huge draw for me. The natural landscapes surrounding The Residences are simply breathtaking. Stunning mountain vistas, lush gardens, and clear blue skies abound. The community is thoughtfully integrated with walking paths, lookout points, and access to Mount Kuchumaa. Wandering through the citrus groves or hearing birds chirping while sipping coffee on my patio instantly brings me joy.
Living here fosters a sense of appreciation and respect for our environment. The Residences utilize green building practices and solar energy. The organic farm supplies produce to the community. Everything nurtures a sustainable connection to nature.
The Rancho Experience
The proximity to Rancho La Puerta is definitely a major perk. As a homeowner, I have exclusive access to the resort’s facilities and programming through the optional day passes. That means I can partake in fitness classes, spa treatments, lectures, cooking demos and more. Spending a day at the ranch truly recharges your mind, body and soul.
Access to Rancho La Puerta also connects me to an incredible community. I’ve met the most interesting, passionate people over the years through the ranch. The shared ethos surrounding wellness, personal growth, art, culture, and food gives an instant sense of kinship. I’m endlessly inspired by this community and look forward to deepening connections as a full-time resident.
Sense of Community
While The Ranch offers a built-in community, I’m also thrilled to connect with my fellow residents. So far everyone I’ve met has been warm, genuine and interesting. We share a spirit of wanting to live healthy, mindful lives in a beautiful setting.
During a recent opening celebration, I mingled with several neighbors and the conversations flowed easily. Many of us are at similar life stages, looking for adventure. I can already tell this will be a close-knit, supportive community. The diversity of backgrounds and life experiences makes it engaging too.
Location, Location, Location
The location in Baja California, Mexico is phenomenal. I love being immersed in the warmth of Mexican culture. The people, food, music, and slower pace of life all appeal to me greatly. The arts scene in Tecate is really growing, with great restaurants and galleries popping up. And we’re only about an hour from Ensenada’s beautiful beaches and the blossoming Valle de Guadalupe wine region.
As an extension of The Ranch’s rich history, I also have great trust in this location. Rancho La Puerta has been here for over 80 years, which brings a wonderful sense of continuity. Long-term staff members who know the land and community make it feel like home.
Starting a New Chapter
On a personal note, this move comes at an exciting point in my life. I recently announced my retirement from my role as a CEO, so this will allow more time for exploration and adventure. I envision spending 2-3 months of the year here enjoying the good life! My four young grandchildren can visit and we’ll make lasting memories hiking the mountain trails, learning to paint, and stargazing on the patio.
I also have homes in the Sierra foothills and San Francisco and I look forward to splitting time between my properties and frequent travel. I have a feeling this will quickly become my home away from home. There is a peacefulness and joy that permeates the air in this community. I’m thrilled to soak it in!

Owning a home at The Residences is certainly an investment. But more than the financials, it’s an investment in myself, my health, my purpose. I am devoted to lifelong learning, meaning, and deep human connection. This community nurtures those values every single day.

While it may sound cliché, being at The Residences makes me want to live with more intention. I feel motivated to pursue my passions, get outdoors, savor time with loved ones, and give back. Everything about this place works together in harmony to help people thrive.
I believe the true value of The Residences at Rancho La Puerta lies in how this place makes you feel. And to me, that feeling is utterly priceless.
